At the office? Girl, do you!

I want to introduce you to Ms. Shante Elliott, a young professional and doctorate student. At the time of this shoot she was actually in grad school at Loyola University, so we took advantage of her access of the campus and got some great looks inside one of their libraries.

Although most libraries are stiff and can look dry, I made sure her images portrayed youthfulness and vibrancy, and of course Elliott came with a lot of style!

She looked fabulous from head to toe.

Her hair was styled impeccably while her outfits were modern, professional and accurate representations of her personality. During business photo shoots, I encourage all of my clients to do what comes naturally to them, and wear what makes them feel great within their workplaces.

Since I'm a hair enthusiast, Shante's hair style stood out most prominently for me. I absolutely loved the style and the cut she opted for!

Instead of wearing a more "acceptable," straightforward look, she decided to invest her time, money and energy into a style that reflected what makes her unique. And girl did she rock it!

Ladies, I want to encourage you to be unafraid of making your coworkers uncomfortable by rocking your own, God-given hair texture.

There is a way that it can be done in elegance and Ms. Elliot nailed it!

Find a great stylist, invest the necessary funds, and do you, boo! Shante, thank you for encouraging and showing other black women how to be a natural, yet professional fit for any job in Corporate America!

What to wear to your fall photo session

There's nothing like turning on the heat and sitting in front of my grandmother's old school register allowing the hot air to warm my feet as soon as the temperature drops below 60 degrees! This means that the layering season is upon us. It's time to bring out the oversized sweaters, plaid, our favorite boots, and fun scarves. All of these items are welcomed and look great, however, I want to share some advice with you that you'll be able to apply leading up to your photo session for me to capture the best results.

Attire

-Keep it simple. Solid colors and non distracting prints make for great images

-Don't worry about trying to match your entire family. Your best option is to coordinate

-Feel free to wear accessories such as scarves and amazing boots for added texture (nothing too flashy)

-Steer clear of large distracting logos

-Wear something that makes you feel CONFIDENT and COMFORTABLE (especially children)

-You can never go wrong with denim and a pop of plaid

-Error on the side of a classic wardrobe over excessive trends

-Don't overthink it

-Stick to a general color scheme, this will make it easier to coordinate your family

-Consider the scenery of your environment: fall leaves are red, gold, yellow, etc., and therefore dark denim is a beautiful contrast to the yellow, gold and red leaves.

My most important tip is to have fun and create memories with the ones you love.
